Philadelphia City Council Passes Cannabis Decriminalization Bill June 23 2014
The cannabis decriminalization bill was passed just yesterday (9/19/14) with a 13-3 vote which qualifies it as a veto proof decision. The city of brotherly love now allows a possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis to be considered a civil offense with a penalty fine of $25.
The mayor, Michael Nutter can now celebrate somewhere around $4 million in annual savings to the Public Safety Budget and a dramatic decrease in arrests from offenses for cannabis related charges, up to 4,000 fewer arrests.
Philadelphia is truly a leader in the cannabis reform movement and will pave the way for other cities to take initiatives against cannabis criminalization.
